Google Outrage

With the widespread outage with Gmail, YouTube, Google Docs, Google Sheets, Google Drive, AdSense, Google Pay, Google Maps and many other Google services, it seems that the services have now been restored after lasting for an hour. With the outage, many people who connected home and Google with Internet of Things (Iot) were not able to proceed with the usage of their everyday appliances.

A representative from Google tweeted to the users regarding the issue:

“Today, at 3.47AM PT Google experienced an authentication system outage for approximately 45 minutes due to an internal storage quota issue. Services requiring users to log in experienced high error rates during this period. The authentication system issue was resolved at 4:32AM PT. All services are now restored.”

More than 100,000 users, from around the world, reported the problems with all of the Google provided services. Google described that the cause of the outage was related to an issue in Google’s automated storage quota management system. The issue within the system led to a decrease in the storage capacity which further took the action to block users from logging into any of the Google’s services.

For many people, this was an alarming reality of how much Google is actually involved within their daily activities including entertainment, home utility and smart home gadget integrated with Google Assistant. Users complained and tweeted about not being able to turn on/off their lights and changing the temperature on their thermostats.

These services are available to users due to the hard work and considerable time Google has spent upon and the users love them. However, this outage showed that even if a single thing is gone wrong with Google, it can affect the world due to how much it is dependent on Google.
